Michigan's automatic expungement system has significantly increased the number of expungements for lower level, non assaultive crimes since it took effect in 2023. Project Clean Slate partnered with Detroit Future City to conduct an assessment of the system, highlighting strengths, impact, and challenges as well as offering recommendations for improvement that would benefit all stakeholders involved.
