  • Detroit residents and business owners invited to learn how to keep their families and businesses safe

The Detroit Fire Department will show residents how to keep their families safe with CPR, fire escape and extinguisher demonstrations, and provide fun activities, prizes and snacks for kids and families at the Fire Prevention Week open house October 9. The event is from noon – 3PM at Engine 56, 18601 Ryan on Detroit’s northeast side.

Attendees also can receive free smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors sponsored by the Detroit Smoke Alarm Program. Fire Department personnel also will share information on the variety of free services the department provides to residents and businesses to promote fire safety.

“Community outreach and the safety of all Detroit residents are high priorities for the Detroit Fire Department,” said Detroit Fire Commissioner Charles Simms. “The Fire Prevention Week open house is another avenue to engage with our communities and let them know we care.”As part of its efforts to decrease fires and eliminate fire deaths, DFD is:

  • Teaching all eighth-grade Detroit students hands-only CPR
  • Helping business owners get their businesses inspected and properly licensed

The event is sponsored by Target with support from the Tarence Wheeler Foundation.
