Outreach and Service Credits
The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) offers nonprofit organizations the opportunity to leverage their unique assets to connect and engage with the community. Approved organizations with DWSD accounts in good standing can perform community outreach and service activities on behalf of DWSD and in return receive bill credit.
- Community Outreach Credit Program

DWSD will provide credits to nonprofit organizations within the city of Detroit that support DWSD in outreach and public education efforts. Nonprofits that work with members and residents to measure and raise awareness of DWSD programs can earn credits on their bill. Credits are administered per DWSD discretion and subject to DWSD approval.

- Service Credit: Fire Hydrant Painting
- DWSD will provide credits to nonprofit organizations within the city of Detroit that support DWSD in providing related services in their neighborhood or a DWSD-designated area. Nonprofits can earn credits on their water and sewerage account. Credits are administered per DWSD discretion and subject to DWSD approval.
- Organizations with DWSD billing account(s) can paint fire hydrants as a community service project and earn bill credit based on the number of hydrants painted. DWSD provides the paint, while the organization provides the manpower and painting supplies such as brushes and gloves.
