The Office of Mobility Innovation (OMI) exists to help the City of Detroit navigate the rapidly changing transportation and mobility industries. Transportation and mobility are essential for both people and businesses and Detroit’s automotive heritage provides an unparalleled opportunity to work with industry to innovate and define their future.

OMI will lead mobility advancement efforts on behalf of the City of Detroit and collaborate with industry, academia, philanthropy, and local, state and federal government. By centering residents in every step of the process, OMI is focused on leveraging mobility as a pathway to opportunity in Detroit.

City of Detroit Projects

Park Improvements:

The General Services Department will renovate more than 50 parks and public spaces across the city this year.

Road Resurfacing:

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is investing more than $100 million this year in improving the City’s road infrastructure. Road resurfacing projects include removing worn or damaged pavement, adding new asphalt, fixing broken curbs, adding ADA ramps, and adjusting manholes or catch-basins that have collapsed.

Streetscape Projects:

The City of Detroit is investing $80 million in bond funding to improve streetscapes and commercial corridors across the City. These streetscape improvements support the City’s neighborhood planning efforts to improve safety and quality of life for Detroit residents. Streetscape improvements might include a variety of amenities including expanded sidewalks, bicycle lanes, improved lighting, plantings, neighborhood branding, and more.

Water & Sewer Upgrades

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) is investing nearly $150 million this year ($500 million over five years) to begin to renew the city's water and sewer system, replace lead service lines, and install green stormwater infrastructure. The map includes projects planned for 2019 – 2021.

DTE Gas Upgrade Program:

DTE is upgrading the natural gas infrastructure for improved safety and reliability. This includes: installing new durable, plastic gas mains/service lines and moving interior located gas meters to your home’s exterior.

DTE Electric Tree Trimming Program:

DTE is trimming trees throughout the City of Detroit to help improve electric reliability. If work is required at your location, DTE will contact you by either knocking on your door to discuss the details or by leaving a door hanger. There is no cost for this service. This program will occur city-wide and is not reflected on the map.
